He served on the faculty at Mercyhurst University from August 1993-May 2017 (seven years as department chair). While at Mercyhurst, he was Faculty Senate President and on the University\u2019s Board of Trustees from 2011-2013 and 2007-2009. He is in his twenty-ninth year of college teaching. He received his Ph.D. (1990) and M.A. (1985) in Politics from The Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C., and his B.S. in Economics from Elizabethtown College (1983). Dr. Federici has published five books, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>The Challenge of Populism<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (1991), <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>Eric Voegelin: The Restoration of Order<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (2002), <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>The Political Philosophy of Alexander Hamilton<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> published by Johns Hopkins University Press (June 2012), <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>Rethinking the Teaching of American History<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">, (an edited volume; Butler Books 2012), and a co-edited collection of essays entitled, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>The Culture of Immodesty in American Life and Politics: The Modest Republic<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (Palgrave Macmillan, May 2013). Dr. Federici also contributed a new introduction to the thirtieth-anniversary edition of Russell Kirk\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>The Politics of Prudence<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a3a3a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (Regnery Publishing, 2023). A native of West Michigan, he received his BA from Calvin College and his MA and Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America in Washington DC.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>In addition to his teaching, he has published on a wide range of scholarly and popular topics. These include Contemporary European Political Thought, American Political Thought, the American Founding, education theory and policy, constitutional law, religion and politics, virtue theory, and other topics. His work has appeared in many scholarly journals as well as more popular venues such as\u00a0<i>The Hill<\/i>,\u00a0<i>the Spectator<\/i>,\u00a0<i>The American Conservative<\/i>,\u00a0<i>First Things<\/i>, and others.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>He serves on the board of The Front Porch Republic, an organization dedicated to the idea that human flourishing happens best in local communities and in face-to-face relationships. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal. He has lectured at many schools and civic institutions across the\u00a0country.
